Waiting for the Moon

Every now and then you need to go back for a trusty Kristin Hannah book.  This was one of her older ones, I believe.  The copyright said 2003.  Her books are so unique. They are always stories that are not a thing like anything I’ve read before. This takes place in Maine in 1882.  In a nutshell it’s the story of a woman who wakes basically from a coma after a head injury in a strange place—which turns out to be the huge mansion of Dr Ian Carrick. She has no recollection of anything at all. Nothing about her past or even who she is or what her name is.  This turns out to be a pretty wonderful story. The first half of the book was quite slow for me but I was hooked for the second half. I’m glad I saw it through. I do recommend it for when you just need something completely different than your normal.  It’s really hard to rate this one because I did not overly enjoy the first half…I would have probably given it like a 2….but then really loved the second ...

Oh my gosh this book is pretty insane. Definitely one that keeps you reading to find out what the heck is going on!   An author, Lowen, is hired to take over writing the last few books in a series by a very well known, successful author after she no longer can, due to injuries sustained in a car crash. She travels to this authors home/office to go through it/find her notes and outlines, ect. While there she becomes immersed in this family, but also finds Verity’s (the OG author) unfinished autobiography. And it. Is. Chilling.  For a mystery/thriller/suspense type book—this is darn good. Probably a….. 4.7/5..???….  Definitely worth reading! You’ll finish it in a matter of days because it’s hard to put down!

The Honey Don’t List

This was just the perfect book to read for something light and fun after some HEAVY books lately.  It’s like a Rom-Com movie all wrapped up in a book. Actually…it WOULD make a really good movie! HMMMM!!  The story follows a 20-something woman working as the assistant to basically an “HGTV” home reno kind of couple. They appear perfect to absolutely everyone and are basically Americas favorite couple….but, they are A. Hot. Mess. Throw in a bit of romance with another assistant working on the same show and book tour, and you have a fun, happy, beach-type read.  Would definitely recommend for that fun, summertime—nothing-too-serious, read.  It’s nothing profound, but it is fun :). I’d give it a 3.5/5.

American Dirt

I very much so enjoyed this book. It tells the story of a Mexican mother and son attempting to flee Mexico to “el Norte,” (USA).  Apparently there was a lot of controversy about this book shortly after it came out due to it being about the Mexican immigration experience, and yet written by a white woman. I can see how that may not sit well, however it is a fictional story yet the background info/research done to make it seem realistic seems to me to have been quite extensive??  All controversy and political stances or agendas aside, I felt it was an extremely well written and thought provoking book. It make the reader really see/feel things from the characters point of view.  You felt their panic and desperation and made you ask yourself the question of, “Illegal or legal, what would you do to save yourself and your child from being hunted done and killed?”  It really made you question what you’d do in a similar situation and for me, gave me a new found empath...
